However, I think we can all agree that our first foray into the great unknown is completely dwarfed by another, far more important first that year: the introduction of the sunburst Les Paul Standard.

Sure, some “astrophysicists” and “engineers” will probably disagree and talk about the advancements space travel has brought to humanity, but to them, I say this: did anyone ever record “Whole Lotta Love” with a rocket booster? Checkmate.

Anyway, this Wildwood Spec (Tom Murphy Painted - Serial 83259) Les Paul from our friends at the Gibson Custom Shop pays tribute to those pioneering first “Bursts” that totally eclipsed the launch of Explorer I.
